Job Description

Director of Adsorption Processes will be responsible for optimizing and developing Marko Lithium Energy’s adsorption process. The role involves understanding the process design synergies between adsorption and solvent extraction and any other downstream system that provides a recycle to adsorption. Knowledge in lithium sorption and desorption ideal. Must be able to develop a project plan that matches with the corporate and business objectives of Marko Lithium Energy. This is not a R&D role.

The candidate must have direct experience with a process intensification commercial success. Candidates will be required to develop innovative process designs for direct lithium extraction. Expert understanding of the chemical and physical systems for adsorption are mandatory. The successful candidate will supervise all aspects of the adsorption process and will be required to provide leadership and mentorship to the team. This position is only for self-motivated, thorough, diligent, and very organized technologists with excellent project management skills and knows how to be a great team member.


Responsibilities

You will work directly with the CTO. Your workday will involve working across multidisciplinary and project execution teams. You will be responsible for the development of a project execution plan with the primary objective of designing an adsorption process that economically extracts lithium.

Engineering and laboratory responsibilities
Oversee and delegate tasks associated with project plan objectives
Organize and monitor daily activity of engineering design and laboratory work
Lab Administration
Ensure all test work is carried out safely and correctly
Effectively provide leadership and mentorship with all technicians and engineers: direct and indirect reports
Process Design
Execute in optimizing the adsorption process design
Leverage process intensification skills to innovate
Report findings and help direct the next steps
Collaborate with other managers, directors, and upper management as needed to accelerate achieving milestones
Projects
Provide guidance for the engineering and lab teams with test work needed to develop and test new adsorption process technologies
Guide technicians and engineers in work priority
Develop a rapid testing process that will assist in qualifying candidate customers for commercialization opportunities

Basic Qualifications

Master or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering.
Over 10 years of experience with an emphasis on packed column design and novel processes for material handling of ion exchange resins and/or adsorbent materials
Over 7 years with Detailed Engineering Design for Commercial Chemical Plants
Experience with synthesis and commercial development of adsorbents especially lithium sorbents is a plus
Proven leader in process engineering design with advanced knowledge of adsorption and ion exchange mechanisms
Expert in the commercial development of adsorption processes
Excellent Relationship skills –
Requires integrated work with the project development team
Must work closely with the entire lab, engineering, and project execution teams
Must be able to communicate with internal and external customers
Self-directed and self-motivated
Proficient computer skills – specifically Microsoft Office, Excel and Lotus Notes databases
Excellent time-management, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in developing methods for product testing and experimental design and equipment/process design
Presentation skills must be exemplary
Proven experience in managing a commercial project team is a must

Role Description

Develop, mentor, coach and lead EHS team members based on data driven assessments and Stakeholder input.
Assist with the development and implementation of EHS programs and management systems.
Actively work as a key Management of Change (MoC) stakeholder on behalf of the Marko Lithium Energy EHS and Facilities teams to ensure that changes result in improved controls of risks to health, safety and the environment.
Help to establish, track, communicate and develop plans achieve EHS performance goals.
Direct the implementation of EHS policies, procedures, and programs necessary to improve and foster a positive EHS culture.
Develop and maintain working partnerships with business stakeholders to customize and implement solutions that support EHS risk reduction for Marko Lithium Energy employees and supporting personnel.
Work independently to understand the business and manage tasks that support risk reduction and legal compliance without specific direction.
Work proactively with the leadership to ensure the participation in and consistent implementation of EHS initiatives.
Provide timely activities and project status reports of performance compared to company EHS goals and strategic initiatives.
Prepare and present compliance program documents, assessment reports, accident reports, training course materials, funding requests, and statistics that are technically accurate and complete.
Conduct hazard evaluations before and during project work, and other exposure assessments as needed.
Provide recommendations to prevent exposures to EHS hazards.
What You’ll Bring

10+ years of experience working with EHS compliance and management systems within manufacturing operations.
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety-related discipline.
Practical, hands-on experience with the following: Risk assessment, equipment and process safety, machine guarding, industrial hygiene, environmental compliance initiatives, and incident root cause analysis.
Demonstrated experience, knowledge and understanding of health and safety requirements and regulations at federal and local levels.
Ability to adapt, adjust schedules when needed, take initiative, prioritize and work effectively within a fast-paced innovative environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to influence and communicate with associates and all levels of management
Proficiency with standard business software, including word processing, presentation software, and spreadsheets.
Working knowledge of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP).

Job Description

The Synthetic (Project) Chemist will be responsible for developing Marko Lithium Energy’s R&D projects for compound synthesis and furthering the solvent extraction project. The successful candidate will supervise all aspects of the manufacture of the synthesized chemistry. Responsibilities

Work with a team of experienced Marko Lithium Energy scientists in research and development focused on disruptive materials and engineering systems to fundamentally transform scientific aspects of the energy industry including:

Oversee and delegate tasks associated to organic synthesis
Organize daily activity of laboratory work, specifically the R&D work

Research

Order or have synthesized the reagents needed to further R&D testing

Job Description

Process Engineer will translate Marko Lithium Energy’s separation advances into technologies such as electrodialysis, solvent extraction, ion adsorption, and ion exchange scaling from bench to pilot and demonstration scale leading to commercialization. The role will lead a team responsible for flowsheet design, simulations, equipment sizing, and specifications, and developing PFDs, PIDs, HAZID, and HAZOPs. The position will be responsible for designing, building, and operating pilot and demonstration plants with inputs from equipment vendors and engineering and play a lead role in technology transfer to commercialization.

Responsibilities

Work on a team of experienced Marko Lithium Energy scientists in research and development focused on disruptive materials and engineering systems to fundamentally transform scientific aspects of the energy industry including:

Lead Marko Lithium Energy novel lithium extraction materials and technologies scale-up to pilot, demonstration, and commercial scale.
Manage and mentor engineering staff in areas of materials production and process development in areas of membrane production and separation, electrodialysis, ion exchange/adsorption and solvent extraction.
Track and communicate the status of laboratory projects to design, production, and materials engineers.
Evaluate the state of the industry techniques and equipment for future lab and pilot testing capabilities.
Convert technical information from laboratory to pilot and commercial process systems.
Coordinate testing and piloting with contract laboratories.
Interface with equipment vendors to procure equipment to specifications.
Engage with EPC contractors to deliver demonstration and commercial plants.
Oversee development and implementation process plants at all scales.
Assess competitive technologies and their applications.


Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering (Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Minerals Engineering)
Minimum 5 years of work experience in process development, piloting, scale-up, and operations.
Understands integrating technology into overall process design.
Experience with typical hydrometallurgical unit operations, specifically membrane separation, ion exchange, and solvent extraction technologies.
Experienced with project development, management, and delivery.

Additional Requirements

Ability to work in a fast-paced, startup environment.
Understanding of techniques applicable for lithium extraction, separation, recovery, and refining.
General knowledge of the water desalination, membrane, energy storage, and lithium industries.
Strong knowledge of unit operation functionality including understanding the strengths and weaknesses of various unit operations and their limitations.
Conducting engineering calculations, mass and energy balances, process modeling, and process equipment design.
Strong capital cost and operating cost knowledge of relevant processes, equipment, and unit operations.
Integrating safety in design, Process Safety, HAZOP, and HAZID.
Effective communication skills as related to the board, partners, and investors including presentation skills at meetings and conferences.

The position is based in Miami, FL, and some international travel will likely be required.

Responsibilities

Work on a team of experienced Marko Lithium Energy scientists and engineers on projects focused on disruptive materials and engineering systems to fundamentally transform scientific aspects of the energy industry including:

● Tracking and execution of pilot plant delivery and operation, including shipping logistics, customs issues, scheduling, testing, and analysis of samples.
● Quality control of pilot and other ancillary equipment deployed to the field.
● Manage relationships with third party service and equipment providers.
● Support troubleshooting and resolving of critical issues in the field
● Interface with equipment vendors to procure equipment to specifications.

Required Qualifications

● Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
